Lords & Lands - Main Page
(last updated 01/09/2018)
Welcome to the Lords & Lands - Main Page, this is where you will find Army lists, a Points cost summary, new rules and an FAQ plus any Errata.
This page will also have news, and links to Lords & Lands material, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them in the comments section below.
So what is Lords & Lands, well I'll let the author Craig Armstrong explain a little more:
Lord
and Lands
Lord and Lands LAL is a fast paced mass battle war-game for any
scale of miniatures, use the dip system
or dice to resolve combat it’s entirely up to you. Movement is measured
by base widths and base sizes are up to the player so your collection of miniatures will
work with this rule set.
An alternate side, unit based activation system means no
player is left out of the action for long and both parties remain engaged for
the duration of the game. The rules are quick and simple but allow for
realistic outcomes and complex game play dependant on the players involved.
Variable command pips reflect the changeable nature of war
but will allow most of your army to move and fight each turn, the question will
be, how well will they perform?
Historical and fantasy rules allow the player to fight out
any engagement they wish, LAL is not restricted to one or the other so
historical armies can fight mythical armies if you like, after all who wouldn’t
want to see the might of Rome repel an Orc invasion.
Army lists include fantasy, ancient, ECW, Samurai and
medieval but there are also fan made army lists for lord of the rings, the
battle of five armies, and Game of thrones. There is also a points calculation
tool which will let you stat and field your own army, however you like.
The command system lets you, as the player order and
influence your troops but minute alterations of the battle plan may prove
difficult and costly once the action begins in earnest.
Standard sized games will play out on a 4x4 gaming surface in
2 hours, but the system is not limited to the size of armies you can field or
the playing surface you can use.

ReplyDeleteIs it posible to buy the PDF somewhere?
ReplyDeleteHi Iain you can get them directly from me if you like, just need a way of swapping emails do you have messenger
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't mind a rules question here as I can't find anywhere else to ask it?
ReplyDeleteUsing the picture example on page 16 of the rules as an example.
If unit A loses combat against 1 and 2 and the blue player chooses to push A back in the direction of 1...
Does A push back B into C, which cannot move because of 5 and is thus destroyed?
If A and B are pushed back two base widths will B also be destroyed?
Does 1 slide up to allow it to follow up on A or halt because of the partial overlap of 2?
Sorry for the complicated question but it's not clear (to me) from the rules.
Jim
Hi Jim, I believe the answer lies on page 16. When a loser is attached from two different sides at once he may choose the direction of retreat, this is the only time a looser gets to choose. In most cases the loser would opt to get away in the least harmful direction, however if he wishes to retreat in a direction that would push friendly units this is allowed, if any retreating units contact an enemy (pushed or otherwise) they are destroyed, hope that helps
DeleteThe best source of info and query resolution is the Facebook lord and lands page
DeleteCraig,
DeleteIt does say that clearly, I guess reading the rules half asleep at 1am after a full day in the office is not the best way to correctly injest them after all?
Posting questions in the same way is also not conducive to looking smart either !!!
Thanks for the swift reply and I will check out the FB group as well.
Jim
Hi Jim, ive passed your query onto Craig, he should be along shortly to answer it in full, their is a facebook Lords & Lands page where you can always ask questions too
ReplyDeletehi, I purchased the book from Lulu, but the set up procedure for the troops is missing, so I have no clue about the minimum distance between the opposing Armies.
ReplyDeleteAnd, the link to purchase "pocketquest" is dead.
Hi Alain, I think minimum distance is at your discretion, as it depends greatly on what base size you are using and whether you want to have room for manuevre before your armies clash, but I have asked Craig9the author) to give you his official answer, Craig can also answer the Pocketquest question as I believe he is talking with a potential new producer
ReplyDeleteHi Alain,
ReplyDeleteWe are currently discussing PQ with an alternate manufacturer, so fingers crossed
LAL was designed to be an open system that you can Taylor to fit your needs so there is no rigid deployment, there is a battlefield generator on this blog (see above) and I would give yourself 2-3 cavalry moves in distance between forces for a 2 hour game
Hi, is it possible to get/purchase a PDF version of the basic rules?
ReplyDeleteThanks
You can get via Facebook or messenger
