28mm Sci-Fi Skirmish (1) The Main Protagonists

As soon as I saw them I knew I had to have all three boxes of North Stars Stargrave minis, firstly I thoroughly enjoy building up multi part minis and secondly I really wanted to paint some which; not being a big lover of 28mm stuff surprised me!

I decided to make a bunch of factions/gangs for a potential sci-fi skirmish game supplemented with a few metal minis from various places, CP Models mainly.

Not really fancying Stargrave itself, I initially went for Planet 28 rules which are perfect for a quick game using any old minis and great for playing with my son. Having played a few games I wanted something more detailed for the narrative side of our games and after some research decided to give Spectre Ops(2nd Ed) a punt, and so far we're really liking them, as they are perfect for small scale narrative missions.

Anyways on to the minis which I wanted to be bright and vibrant (unlike most of my collection) and wanting to get through them quickly I used a lot of GW's Contrast paints which I am just about getting the hang of.

First up are my main protagonists the A.L.F (Alien Liberation Front) brave freedom fighters or alien terrorists depending on your viewpoint:

Next are the A.L.F's main opponents the Galactic Marine Corps which sadly went through two other paint schemes before I settled on this one(the others being too dull for my overall scheme):

Some more factions, and then a few vehicles over the next couple of posts.

Odds & Ends (19) - Keeping it in the Family

My son has been painting on and off since he was about 8(he's now 10) he started with a few Reaper Bones dragons and other beasties but as he has gotten older he is now interested in Fallout and Blood Bowl(amongst many other things!).

With his pocket money and birthday/Xmas he has acquired quite a few of Modiphius' Fallout range, so I thought I'd show of his painting, first up his Fallout collection:

As he was showing considerable interest in Blood Bowl and being very keen for him to get into it myself I gave him my spare Lizardman team which was well down my queue for painting and over the course of a couple of weeks he has painted and based his first team:

As for actual gaming, he has played a few half's of table top Bloodbowl and plenty on the Xbox,  I have also had him playing Dragon Rampant and Bolt Action both of which he picked up quickly and enjoyed and he has now picked up a 2nd hand Age of Sigmar Lizardman force and has been browsing 3rd party Kroxigors for his Bloodbowl team to replace the current one he's not keen on!

The start of his AoS army:

Hopefully it's not just a fad but so be it if it is!(though it would be awesome if he caught the Bloodbowl bug at least!)

Gaslands (9) Pedestrians and the final vehicles

This is probably the last Gaslands stuff I'll be doing(well at least until I find both an Ambulance and a more suitable Helicopter)

First up is this final car, not that I need anymore, but my 9 year old son built it and he couldn't be bothered to paint it and as I couldn't bear to see it go to waste here it is:

Next is Elheim miniatures Gyrocopter, I couldn't get the pilot to fit as nice as a more competent modeller would but its good enough for me:

A couple of size comparison pics:

and lastly a bunch of Elheim's post apoc 20mm minis to go with the one from the last Gaslands post:

Not sure what I'm going to paint next, I'll just see what appeals, but I might make a start on my 15mm Prohibition civilians and vehicles.

Gaslands (8) Refuelled

I recently received the new and updated edition of Gaslands, along with North Stars fancy sprue of conversion parts/bits.  Thusly inspired I set to work on adding a few more vehicles to my collection, primarily working on filling in the missing vehicles types(and using some of the nice new bits up at the same time).

Dragster:

Ice Cream Van:

Buggy(bit big but it'll do):

Helicopter(bit small but it'll do):

Tank:

and whilst not a different class as such, I have been wanting to add some Cops to the pool of vehicles:

(Northstars New) Motorbike:

And I did the first of my pedestrians(Elheim Miniatures):

And finally that most deadly of vehicles, the Princess Car(as painted by my daughter):

I have a Gyrocopter and a bunch more Pedestrians to do for Gaslands and that's it really, I'm still missing an Ambulance which if/when I see something suitable I'll get round to doing.

Back to 15mm fantasy next as I really want to finish off my Orc/Goblin warband and I only 15 minis to do.
