Old West Gaming (Part 1)

Apologies for the lack of recent posts to those few of you that follow this Blog, due to a case of Tennis Elbow and ennui, I haven't done much in the way of painting recently, but am slowly forcing myself to pick the brushes back up and get some stuff done.

So with that in mind I decided to re-visit my 28mm(or thereabouts) old West stuff that had been languishing in a box for the last 3 years.

 Whilst I have a fully painted gang of desperadoes they were in dire need of a touch up having been through the wars somewhat, and as I had binned all my Old West scenery(predominately printed out card stock buildings that had gotten knackered through bad storage and time) I really needed to work on some scenery.

First up is the gang, which just needed some touching up and a quick re-base to make them more consistent with each other(minis from Dixon, Foundry and Artisan):

Secondly, I have started to replace the now disposed of cardstock scenery with some MDF stuff from the excellent TTCombat range:

Finally a little bit of street furniture, the fences are from RedVectors the other bits from various places:

I have about 10 more gunslingers to do, plus a similar amount of citizens and hired guns, plus a load more buildings so hopefully this project will get me back at it.

Distractions & Diversions (4)

I painted these up recently as a gift, as previously mentioned I'm not a fan of 28mm stuff these days, but gotta say I fully enjoyed painting these, especially as they were so quick and easy to do. I can highly recommend this off shoot of Foundry, as they are currently offering free postage and a free sample miniature, both my recent orders were received in a few days of placing the order:

That was a fun little distraction, back to Epic now, I have just finished basing all my Epic Space Marine and Imperial Guard vehicles which I decided needed doing and this has delayed the Guard being finished plus I have some sci-fi/post apoc terrain and aliens that I need to get done.

Distractions & Diversions (3)

Once upon a time, all I painted miniature-wise was 28mm stuff - or 25mm as it was back then, and GW was the mainstay of my gaming world. Over the years and having discovered different scales, my 28mm stuff has all but vanished to the hellish realms of E-bay, and muchos 6mm and 10mm stuff it has funded!

Whilst I still drool over the amazing 28mm stuff out there,(I love the Dark Sword miniatures, Game of Thrones stuff) I am less and less inclined to make the purchase due to my dread of painting them.
 I know I'm not the worlds best painter, but my need to do at least a half decent paint job means 28mm mini's take an age to paint these days. Even skirmish/warband style gaming with 20 or less mini's is probably beyond my reach. The last "Army" I painted in 28mm was an Old West gang (see below), I still have the last version of GW's Human Blood Bowl team to paint up, some Perry miniatures stuff for Ronin and a Justice Dept. team for Judge Dredd and I simply cannot face doing them which is a crying shame as they're all great figures and would look fantastic with a half decent paint job. Anyway enough of my despondency, here are the few 28mm miniatures I still have that are actually painted up:

All the above belong to my Mum of all people, she has an interest in mythology, paganism and dark age Britain, I tend to paint them for her as Mothers day gifts as they are bit different from a bunch of flowers and she really appreciates them, and it gives me an excuse to paint these fantasy 28's that I would never buy for myself.
